Methods: In this study, 30 diabetic women (age 48± 8, height 158± 2, weight 76± 8) with non-alcoholic fatty liver participated. Subjects were randomly divided into two groups of control (n = 15) and exercise (n = 15). The training group performed resistance training of upper and lower body muscles in  in each session and three sessions per week for eight weeks. The control group did not perform any exercise program. One repetition maximum (1RM) test and ELISA technique were used to measure leg and chest muscle strength, fatty liver and lipid profile indices, respectively. Two-way ANOVA test with repeated measures was used to determine the differences. with confidence interval of P < 0.05. Results: The results showed that in within group comparison HDL, ALT and AST variables were significantly different in the control group (P <0.05). Also, in the between group comparison, the results showed that there was a significant difference between the control and training groups in the variables of body composition, fat profile and fatty liver (P <0.05). Conclusions: These results suggest that resistance training can bring the levels of fat profile variables and liver enzymes closer to normal by compensating for the destructive effects of type 2 diabetes and non-alcoholic fatty liver in HDL, ALT and AST variables.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and insulin resistance.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is an entity now recognized as one of the leading causes of asymptomatic chronic elevation of aminotransferase levels, which can, however, progress to more advanced forms of hepatic lesion and ultimately to liver failure. Insulin resistance is considered as having a central role in NAFLD pathogenesis, which is related with oxidative stress, abnormal pro...

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is now recognised as the hepatic component of metabolic syndrome (MetS). NAFLD is an example of ectopic fat accumulation in a visceral organ that causes organ-specific disease, and affects risk of other related diseases such as type 2 diabetes and CVD. NAFLD is a spectrum of fat-associated liver conditions that can culminate in end stage liver disease, ...
